1) 25 Students along with 3 teachers visited IIT Kanpur for a workshop on Geospatial Sciences at NCG(National Centre for Geodesy)
2) The students, research scholars, and Professors of IIT explained to our students about the advancements in this new and developing branch which deals with the precise positioning of any point in the coordinate system of the space. Students were shown devices which could tell the coordinates of a place, measure the horizontal and vertical angle of any point with the earth.
3) The data for the positioning system is collected by the satellite and then transferred to GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) and to IGS which are only 6 in India and one of them is established in IIT Kanpur at Geodessy Village where our student went and explored the system.
4) The data received by the GNSS and IGS are further processed by Supercomputers for Meteorological and Navigation services. Our students also got a chance to see the Latest supercomputer ‘ParamSanganak’ and were told about its specifications. It is one of the 15 supercomputers in India.
5) Finally the students visited the Flight Club which had several aircraft developed in IIT itself by the Aeronautics Department
