The Round Square Forum held at the Indian High School Dubai from 17th to 20th November, 2023, was a dynamic and engaging event focusing on the “Heroes of Discovery.” This pilot project aimed at Early and Primary Years education was the focal point of the three-day forum.
The Heroes of Discovery initiative is an innovative approach designed to capture and articulate the attitudes, skills, attributes, and values essential for holistic pupil development. The 12 Discoveries, embodied by different personas, serve as the foundation for lesson planning, curriculum design for extracurricular activities, and a framework for diverse reflection and non-formal assessment methodologies.
The Heroes,each representing distinct attributes, are as follows:
1.Inquisitive Indu: Encourages curiosity and a thirst for knowledge.
2.Problem-Solving Papri: Focuses on fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
3.Responsible Rami: Emphasizes the importance of accountability and responsibility.
4.Courageous Collette: Encourages bravery and resilience in facing challenges.
5.Tenacious Tino:Advocates perseverance and determination in the pursuit of goals.
6.Sustainability Suki: Promotes awareness and action towards sustainable practices.
7.Communication Cara: Highlights the significance of effective communication skills.
8.Self-Aware Simba: Encourages self-reflection and awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses.
9.Inventive Idris: Nurtures creativity and innovation.
10.Compassionate Carlos: Focuses on empathy and compassion towards others.
11.Diversity Dani: Celebrates and respects diversity in all its forms.
12.Teamwork Tama: Stresses the importance of collaboration and teamwork.
Throughout the forum, participants engaged in discussions, workshops, and collaborative activities centered around integrating these Heroes of Discovery into educational practices. The event facilitated the exchange of ideas and best practices among educators, enabling them to explore innovative ways of implementing the Heroes’ attributes within their school environments.
