Multiple Intelligences and Differentiation in Classrooms


When we teach in pluralistic ways, there are two wonderful dividends. First of all, we reach more students, because some learn best through stories, some through works of art, some through role play etc. Second of all, we show what it is like really to understand something.

Differentiated instructions & Multiple Intelligences are most relevant topics concerning educators today. The emphasis is on understanding that each student is unique in the twenty-first century. Every student has a different collection of particular talents, requirements, interests, learning preferences and approach the classroom with distinct cultures, ethnicities, beliefs, and attitudes. It is believed and presumed that teachers accommodate these variations by changing their pedagogical approaches and modifying their instructional strategies to better match the skills, personalities, and learning preferences of the learners. Teachers are expected to provide students with equal opportunities and differentiated instructions to reach their full potential in today’s times.

A teacher could employ various reading levels, text-to-audio, spelling, and vocabulary based on the readiness of the students, use both aural and visual senses, involve teamwork, and schedule time for reteaching sessions. interest-based stations, encourage students to make to-do lists, and give extra time to those who might need it. Giving students options for ways to demonstrate their knowledge, using rubrics, allowing students to work alone or in groups, and encourage students to design their own assignments—as long as they have the right components.

By watching and identifying a student’s preferred learning style, the goal is to successfully incorporate instructions and multiple intelligences into the classroom. This will increase the students’ self-esteem as they gain academic confidence.
