“The function of education is to teach one to think intensely and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education” – Martin Luther King.
One of the main concerns regarding our current teaching methodology is how to make our students future-ready. While updating the course structure is a step in the right direction, we need to also teach our students is How to think instead of What to think. Critical thinking skills are to be inculcated in the students; they can help the students make better sense of the world around them. With these skills, students will be able to create refined, thoughtful research of the challenges they may face. Next, we need to develop problem solving skills that are highly valued in both personal and professional lives of our students. The convergent and divergent thinking processes involved in problem solving are some must have skills in this competitive world.
Facilitators also need to teach the kids the art of eloquent articulation to convey tricky thoughts in a charming way. Since this skill is essential in the outside world, it is imperative that we teach our students to articulate their thoughts in a way that not just clearly communicates the ideas but also enhances their skills of interaction and in turn helps in the holistic development of their personality.
