Democracy in Schools An RS Event

A virtual symposium- Democracy the voice of the people was organized under the banner of Round Square by Riverdale Country School, USA ON 5th May 2022.  

Five of our students from Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Kanpur Aarna Gupta (VII C), Aryan Arora (VII A), Ishaanvi Kanodia (VII C), Varnika Agarwal (VII C), and Venya Kapoor (VII C) under the mentorship of  Mrs. Ruchi Seth and RS Rep. Ms.Vidhupriya Rastogi participated in this event. They were asked to prepare a collage and a few questions related to the discussion.

Various schools from around the world also made their collages and prepared themselves for the discussion. There were two keynote speeches also. One was by Ophelia Watahomigie- Corliss and another by Antoinette Quarshie. The children were divided into different Barraza sessions. In the Barraza session, the discussion was on questions like ‘Democracy in schools’, ‘The standout points in the keynote speeches, etc. really motivated the children.

It was indeed an interesting and intriguing session. This Barraza increased students’ confidence levels, leading to more participation and active learning.  Students around the world learnt about other’s views on democracy also.

Learning Outcome –

  1. Students understood the meaning of Democracy in a wider aspect.
  2. Students got a clear idea as to how can democracy be a part of school functioning.
